I often ask myself which came first: my insatiable sweet tooth or my career in pastry. After years of donut frying and cookie recipe taste-testing, one might think I’d now be craving savory snacks to change it up. As it turns out, however, all of those long hours spent baking only bolstered my love of sweets. Now that I no longer work in kitchens, I still spend loads of time baking in my home kitchen, but I’ll be quite honest with you. Trust me, from one Nutella lover to another: This Dark Chocolate Tahini Spread from Soom has me practically forgetting about Nutella for good.
Tahini — a paste made from ground sesame seeds — is a staple in many savory Middle Eastern and Mediterranean dishes, including hummus. So when I stumbled across Soom — a brand started by three sisters who built the company based on their collective love for cooking, eating, and making communal memories — I was thrilled to see their sweet tahini spread options. They carry individual flavors like Vanilla Bean, Chocolate, and their Premium OG tahini (which can be used for savory or sweet purposes), all of which are derived from ethically-sourced Ethiopian sesame seeds and are also available in bundles. While you really can’t go wrong, my new go-to spread is this Dark Chocolate Tahini.
The creamy tahini is blended with premium dark cocoa powder to create a rich, chocolatey treat. If that wasn’t enough, Soom has swirled in large crystals of crunchy sea salt, checking off all the boxes for a salty or sweet craving. Because it’s made from only sesame seeds, I love that I can use the spread for all sorts of recipes and bring them to nut-free households without having to worry!
Whether I’m hosting people, bringing a dessert to a dinner party, or just having a personal mini tahini party, I have found plenty of ways to enjoy this Dark Chocolate Tahini. I add it onto toast, drizzle it onto coconut ice cream, use it as a dip for fruit, but most often, I honestly eat it by the spoonful.
